Meditation
What is meditation?
Many people have misconstrued ideas about what meditation is or what it is that people are trying to achieve through it. Meditation is also often associated with certain religious practices, which is not neccessarily the case.
The pressures of modern times living means that consistent demands are being put on us as human beings resulting in the continuous processing of information in our minds which produces anxiety and stress. The mind can be likened unto a jar full of water, sand and debris. The stress and anxiety results in the shaking of this jar resulting in murky water. The mind is no longer able to be still and to reach a point of clarity. Meditation is a method of allowing the mind to reach a still point where the sand and debris sinks down to the bottom of that jar, allowing us to get perspective on life.
Meditation takes on many forms. Any action which we perform that wholly brings our minds and awareness into the now and present can be defined as meditation. This could be driving your car, washing the dishes, practicing martial arts etc.
Meditation with Kyusho Jitsu South Africa
Despite training in the pressure point and energy arts being limited to advanced martial artists, the meditation sessions are open to all interested parties. The meditation is a place where friends and like-minded individuals have the opportunity to meet and sit together in meditation. Various forms of meditation are practiced and experimented with. The group is therefore not rigid in anyway and it is important for individuals to find methods which works and are suitable to them.
When are these meditation sessions held?
Meditation sessions are held three to four times per month. Every second week of the month on a week night after the Kyusho Aiki Jutsu training sessions, a half hour meditation is held. On the middle Saturday of the month a half hour meditation is held at the back end of the three hour introductory and advanced training sessions. On the last Sunday of each month a one and a half hour meditation session is held. The meditation sessions are free of charge. Please refer to the training schedule for detailed listing of dates and times.
Kyusho Jitsu South Africa has a couple of seiza benches (meditation benches) and cushions available for use during these meditations sessions. Benches and cushions are available for sale upon request. Please dress comfortably and bring a warm sweater and/or blanket with to keep warm.
We intend to hold various open air meditations in future as the group grow and will endeavour to hold a couple of retreats during the year.
Meditation and Kyusho Aiki Jutsu
For optimal application of martial arts and advanced aspects such as Kyusho Jitsu and Aiki the mind is of most importance. Aspects such as focus and intent are of the most fundamental aspects which often receive very little or no training. Various drills and meditations are incorporated as part of the drills to train the mind and spirit of a variety of levels. These meditations are non-religious in nature.
